Community Education for the Mid North Coast
Community education is lifelong learning outside formal education that empowers individuals and strengthens communities. It responds directly to local needs through relevant, accessible, and participatory programs that build personal confidence, social connection, and practical problem-solving skills. Flexible and learner-centred, community education fills gaps that traditional education often leaves—offering hands-on, meaningful learning opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Core Principles of Community Education
-
Involvement: Learners are active partners in identifying needs, shaping programs, and contributing to shared outcomes.
-
Resourcefulness: Local knowledge, skills, and networks are valued and utilised—drawing on the strengths of people, organisations, and community assets.
-
Responsiveness: Programs evolve with the changing needs, priorities, and challenges of the community.
Community education develops essential skills for life, learning, and work. It offers supportive, flexible programs that build confidence, promote inclusion, and strengthen the social and economic wellbeing of local communities.
